About This Policy

Ice Winter Recipes is a cozy cooking companion that helps you discover winter recipes, spin the Recipe Reel for dinner ideas, build shopping lists, and time your cooking. This Privacy Policy explains how Ice Winter Recipes developed by Buzz Tech ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the app and its companion website at winter2268.com. We've tried to write it in plain language so you can quickly see what's going on behind the scenes — no legal maze required.

By using the app, you agree to the practices described here. If anything below doesn't sit right with you, we'd rather you know up front than be surprised later.

Handling Your Data

We've kept data collection deliberately small. Here's everything the app actually touches:

Collecting Information Automatically

The first time you open the app, a few small things happen in the background:

  • An anonymous identifier is generated and saved on your device. It's a random string — not your name, email, or anything that identifies you personally — and it helps us understand how the app is being used overall. It stays on your device until you clear the app's data or uninstall.
  • Your device's language and region setting is read so we can present things in a sensible way.
  • The Google Advertising ID (GAID) from your device is collected for marketing attribution — basically, so we can tell if you found us through an ad or the Play Store directly. You're always in control of this: you can reset it or opt out of personalized ads in Android Settings → Google → Ads.
  • Attribution information — where you came from (organic, ad network, etc.), the marketing campaign that led you to install, and the install referrer — is gathered so we know which channels are working.

Storing Things Locally on Your Device

A lot of what makes the app feel personal lives entirely on your phone and never leaves it:

  • Your favorite recipes
  • Your shopping list
  • Your active cooking timers
  • App preferences (sound, vibration, units, theme)
  • Onboarding progress

None of this is uploaded to our servers. If you ever want a clean slate, the in-app Settings tab has options to clear favorites, the shopping list, and user data — or you can clear the app's data through your device's system settings.

Using the Built-in Browser

The app includes a built-in browser used to display the Privacy Policy and the Support page directly inside the app, without bouncing you out to Chrome or Safari. The built-in browser supports cookies (including third-party cookies) and local website storage, just like any normal browser would — that's standard browser behavior, not something the app collects or stores on its own. Any websites loaded inside it operate under their own privacy practices. You can clear cookies and local storage at any time by clearing the app's data through your device settings.

Sending a Support Message

If you tap "Support" in the app's Settings tab, the built-in browser opens our contact form. Sending a message is completely optional, and only what you type into the form is submitted. Specifically, you can include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address (so we can reply)
  • A description of your question, feedback, or the issue you ran into
  • An optional file attachment — you can take a photo or video using your device's camera, or pick an existing screenshot, image, or document through your device's file picker

We use this information for one purpose only: to actually reply to you and fix whatever's broken. The app itself does not access your camera directly — if you choose to attach a fresh photo or video, your device's built-in camera app handles the capture and asks for any permissions it needs.

A Quick Note on Network Connections

For technical reasons related to how the app talks to its servers, some network connections may use unencrypted HTTP rather than HTTPS. We do not transmit personal information through these connections, but you should know it's possible for unencrypted traffic to be intercepted on untrusted networks.

Third Parties We Work With

To run the app properly we share a small amount of data with one third-party service:

AppsFlyer is the marketing attribution service we use. The Google Advertising ID, attribution data (source, campaign, install referrer), and the anonymous identifier described above are shared with AppsFlyer so we can understand which marketing efforts are bringing in new users. AppsFlyer also collects additional standard device information (such as your IP address, device model, and operating system version) as part of its normal functionality. You can read more in AppsFlyer's privacy policy.

Beyond AppsFlyer, we don't share your data with anyone else — we don't sell it, we don't trade it, and we don't pass it to advertisers. The only other situation in which we'd disclose information is if we're legally required to (for example, in response to a valid legal request).

How Long We Keep Data

Different pieces of data stick around for different lengths of time:

DataHow long it's kept
Anonymous identifierOn your device until you clear app data or uninstall
Locally stored content (favorites, shopping list, timers, settings)On your device until you clear it or uninstall
Cookies & local storage in the built-in browserAccording to standard browser expiration rules, until you clear app data
Google Advertising IDManaged by Google Play Services; you can reset it in Android Settings at any time
AppsFlyer installation identifier & attribution dataManaged by AppsFlyer; tied to your app installation
Support messagesKept only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry

Staying In Control

You have several ways to manage your data without ever having to ask us:

  • Resetting your Advertising ID — head to Android Settings → Google → Ads to reset it or opt out of personalized advertising entirely.
  • Clearing the app's data — this resets the anonymous identifier, removes locally stored favorites and shopping lists, and clears cookies/local storage from the built-in browser. You can do this through your device's app settings, or use the in-app options under Settings (Clear Favorites, Clear Shopping List, Delete User Data).
  • Uninstalling the app — removes all data the app stores on your device.
  • Reaching out to us — if you'd like to know what information we hold about you, or you want it removed, send us a message and we'll handle it.

Children, Updates, and Security

Children's privacy. The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us right away and we'll delete it.

Security. We take reasonable steps to protect the limited data we handle. Most network communications use HTTPS encryption (with the exception noted under "A Quick Note on Network Connections" above). No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to keep things tidy on our end.

Changes to this policy. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we add a feature or change how something works. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected in the app's privacy acceptance flow as well.
